When taken as directed the Ethical Multivitamin is well tolerated. Always take it with a meal as some minerals (e.g. zinc) can cause nausea when taken on an empty stomach. 

Some individuals have genetic variations that make it challenging to convert synthetic forms of certain vitamins into forms the body can use.

Vitamins and minerals come in different forms with varying degrees of bioavailability. Bioavailability refers to how much of a substance your body is able to absorb once you have taken a supplement. 

For example, folate can be taken as synthetic folic acid or as the more bioavailable methylfolate. Calcium comes as calcium carbonate - which is basically chalk - or the better absorbed form of calcium citrate (guess which form we use!).

Nutrients with low bioavailability need to be taken in much stronger dosages to provide the same benefit as nutrients with high bioavailability.
