Phytoestrogens are natural compounds in fruits, vegetables, beans, pulses, and herbs. Many of the key ingredients in Meno Complex such as wild yam, red clover, mung beans, hops, and dong quai, are rich sources of phytoestrogens.

These compounds are chemically similar to human oestrogen but have a much weaker effect on the body [1].

There are different types of phytoestrogens:

  1. Isoflavones are found in red clover, chickpeas, kidney beans, and traditional soy foods like miso tofu, and tempeh.
  2. Lignans are found in ground flaxseeds, sesame seeds, broccoli, cashew nuts, and green tea.
  3. Coumestans which are highly concentrated in red clover and mung beans.
  4. 8-prenylnaringenin found in hops.

Phytoestrogens are useful during perimenopause and menopause as they can modulate the impact of fluctuating oestrogen levels. They act similarly to SERM (Selective Oestrogen Receptor Modulator) drugs, stimulating some but not all oestrogen receptors in different parts of the body.

Phytoestrogens have a long history of traditional use for managing menopausal symptoms and other female hormone imbalances like PMS (pre-menstrual syndrome).

Clinical studies have focused mainly on the positive effect of phytoestrogens for hot flushes and sweats during menopause [2] although research is ongoing into the benefits for heart health and bone density.

The results of phytoestrogen studies are complicated by the fact that their activity is influenced by the gut microbiome. A diverse, balanced gut microbiome can positively influence phytoestrogen metabolism and may lead to more noticeable benefits.

Our unique blend of 10 natural botanical extracts is designed to support hormonal balance and mental wellbeing during perimenopause and menopause.

We’ve included:

  • Milk thistle and dandelion root for liver health and hormone detoxification [3, 4].
  • Phytoestrogens from wild yam, hops, red clover, dong quai, and mung bean.
  • Maca root for optimising mental wellbeing and resilience to stress [5].
  • Sage to support temperature regulation, memory, and cognitive function [6].
  • Green tea for antioxidant support.

Yes, the botanical extracts in Meno Complex can potentially interact with a range of medications, HRT (hormone replacement therapy), and other botanical supplements.

We recommend speaking to your healthcare provider before using Meno Complex alongside any prescription medication.

Because of the different nature and types of breast cancer and other hormone-dependent cancers, we recommend speaking to your healthcare provider before using Meno Complex.

When taken as directed Meno Complex is well tolerated with minimal side effects.

Some people may experience temporary mild nausea or loose stools in response to the bile-stimulating effects of dandelion root and milk thistle.
